May Is Such A Tease

May is such a tease, here in the PNW (Pacific northwest, y'know.)  We'll get a couple of weeks, maybe even a whole month of warm, sunny weather.  People go nuts.  A little too nuts.  (Attention, tweeny shopper in Kohl's last week:  the fact that the thermometer rose above 70F does not qualify this as BIKINI weather.  Please put on the shirt your mom keeps handing you.)

The warm weather does mean that everything with chlorophyll is putting on a show.  Like my pink dogwood.  What a change just a couple of days makes!

See my sun chair, on the little patio?  Yes.  That's where I go to get my daily dose of Vitamin D, with a side of peace and quiet.  And if the breeze is blowing, even a little...

... see my neighbor's white lilac?  I can sit in my chair with the aroma of lilac wafting over me.  Bliss :D

I have my own lilac...

... still in recovery from when we excavated to level our driveway.  It just started blooming again last year, so I don't dare pick any yet, but it's coming along.  And it's a double lilac, see?

It's over by the ugly side of the garage, next to the mystery tree.  I don't know what it is, but it sure leafs out a lot later than everything else.

It's worth it, though, because in the fall, it's gorgeous :D

But back to spring.

This is one of my favorite sights,

laundry on the line.

Gramma Grasshopper would be proud - I bought the boys new socks today.  Because, yes, we are those geeky homeschoolers your mother warned you about.  Absolute fashion disasters.  The boys have not internalized The Rule about socks, yet.

Long pants, long socks.  Shorts (short pants), short socks.

But the time has come.  They will wear their short socks to Disneyland and they will like it.

And I will sit in my sun chair, liking the view.

I soooo want to come visit you! (And my kids hardly ever wear socks. In fact, if they do wear them, the socks usually don't match. It's a disaster.)

Well, here in Virginny, let me tell you what the socks are like. First, They are are never short. They are always long, always. Second, they are never white. Never, ever. Third, they are in every color combination you can imagine...one base color, and one accent color in a broken stripe up the back (Nike Elite basketball socks...check them out). Fourth, they don't need to match. My boys often wear different socks together, and it is completely acceptable. Third, they are ridiculously expensive, and I buy them as rewards for the boys! You would not believe how excited they get for a pair of socks. Not kidding. Who would have thought that socks would be the main focus of my boys' fashion...I don't know if it's like this everywhere. Maybe it's just my little nook in the world... And I'm still coming to grips with the whole colored sock thing...trying to understand it...

By the way, I was impressed with how WHITE those socks are hanging on the line!

*Sigh!* I need a dogwood. They're so beautiful! I'm glad you let us know that those were new socks because I was going to ask you how you keep them so WHITE! Like Joanna,we too live in the land of mismatched socks, although as soon as the outdoor temps rise above five degrees Celsius, it's hard to keep socks on anyone. Murray and the Boy have black or white. The girls have every colour under the sky -- including neon! Most of the time they don't remotely match what they're wearing.

Enjoy some sitting and vit. D for me. We're in dark and/or cold day number four and I don't think we'll see any sunshine at least until Thursday.

Blessings!

I love this time of year. It is gorgeous. Our (tiny) dogwood tree has bloomed, our apple trees are blooming, and my bearded iris are ready to bloom. Heaven!

We had snow on May 13, so I appreciate every warm day we get!
