Grasshopper Days

Grasshopper Days

For today, November 5, 2012.

Outside my window...  amazingly, sunshine :D  I wouldn't exactly say it's a "crisp fall day", since everything is thoroughly soggy, but I'll take the bright sunshine with a thankful heart.

Hearing...  a stellar jay - one of the birds we have all year - scolding a squirrel.

Thinking...  "Stay on target, stay on target..."  (You know the reference, right?)

Praying... for the very hectic week ahead - all good, but a lot of everything.

Thankful...  for a safe, warm, cozy home through our fall storms.

Wearing...  gray jeans, white t-shirt, periwinkle blue sweater and socks (Oooo!  I match! )

Creating...  made this for my mom's b'day, which is today - Happy Birthday, Mom!
But we celebrated on Saturday, so the secret is out.

I forgot to measure it when I finished, but about 20x30 inches, so obviously intended to be hung (not much good for wrapping up in!)  I saw a picture of something like this ages ago, and immediately thought of my mom.  I just made it extra wide, hacked it up, and sewed it back together, offset, to give the impression of it blowing in the wind.

And this little candle mat, with a jar candle.
I think Gunnar's favorite candle scent is the Vanilla Sugar Cookie :D

I love the tiny snow-flakes on the white, that you can only see up close.

Going...  can't tell.  It's a secret.  Let you know soon ;D

Reading...  Genghis Khan and the Mongol Horde with the boys.

Learning... more about the Mongols than I ever heard before.

Looking forward to...  Thursday, and Friday... ;D

In the kitchen...  beef stroganoff for us and some friends.

In the learning rooms...  Genghis and Kublai Khan, osmosis, ratios and proportions, phrases and clauses, graphing on x and y axes (plural of axis?), and linking vs. action verbs.

Around the house...  just did a quick drop-everything-and-tidy-the-living-room-and-dining-room (which was no biggie, since it wasn't a disaster) as Kerry just informed me that he's having clients over at ten.  And one does not bring clients to Kerry's office.  ;D

The Mother Load...  see the plans for the week, below...

Noticing that...  how can it possibly be November all ready?  And, by the way,

49 days until Christmas.

Something to remember for later...  all the boys' jokes about the possibilities, now that Disney has bought Star Wars from George Lucas.  They're going to be making some sketches... Luke and Leia in Mickey and Minnie's clothes, maybe?  That's probably been done.  How about Jafar-2D2?  We'll see...

Something fun to share...  just watched a movie I haven't seen in ages, The Dish.  Have you seen it?  Based on the true story of the Parkes Radio-Telescope in Australia, and its role in the Apollo 11 mission.  Funnier than it sounds, but a bit more 'language' than I remembered.  We must have watched it on video before, and now that we're watching on DVD with captioning on nothing slips by, y'know?

A favorite quote for today...  If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough.
     - Mario Andretti, so apropos of this week!

One of my favorite things...  nice enough weather (and a light enough morning) that Wyatt rode his bike to school.

A few plans for the rest of the week...  homeschool, homeschool, homeschool, Monday night Messiah rehearsal, Tuesday night CAP, Wednesday night CPR/AED class at church (for the whole family), Thursday trip to Canada to meet Felicity and family (!), and home-again-home-again-jiggety-jig, to get Tate packed up and off to my parents' house for an early-morning departure on Friday.  More on that later...

A peek into my world...

Are you ready for it?

This is my new view...

Yah.  Believe it.

We're doing Marco Polo this year. We just read that at that time, when a Mongol man died, his son married all of his wives except his own mother. Thank goodness for that exception.

I have a vision of Darth Vader with Mickey ears - hopefully Disney will do a good job with the movies they plan to release!

I can't wait to hear where you're going. I LOVED your trip last year (it was my virtual vacation - I read it with my coffee every morning, haha).

Send some of that sunshine this way - we could use it!

I always love your quilting projects ~ your family is blessed to be the happy recipients ;-)

Virtual, computer-generated {{hugs}} to you and Felicity! Hope y'all have a great day together!

Laughing at Andretti, but I'd better pick up the pace... and put on my voting face. :p

Hi-larious - when I read the, "Stay on target" quote, I heard it in that pilot's voice and knew immediately!

Love the Andretti quote, going to have to add that to my collection.

Praying that, "Going" response is an answer to prayer!

Love the flag! Gorgeous!

I've seen Mickey and Minnie in Luke and Leia outfits, but not the other way around. That's quite the mental image! :-)
