Autumn Falling

October!  It's October!  Yah, I know you already know.  But how did that happen?  (Yah, comes after September every year.)  But still.  It's officially fall.

And I love it :D

The Rock Wall / Samaria project is finished for the year.

We went from this...

to this...

And from this...

... to this

The ground continues to slope up to the alley above the rock wall, so Kerry started a second rock wall with the leftover rocks (kind of a retaining wall)...

...and Tate used smaller rock he screened out of the dirt to build this nice path/ramp up to the alley.

And Kerry and the boys spread grass seed, and covered it all with straw to keep our local we-want-to-regulate-you-to-death officials off our backs.

The fire pit is not built yet, but will go here.

The background is kind of blown out due to the hazy fall morning, but there's a nice view of the lake, between the houses.

Uncle Dave suggested this...

... but at $500 it's a bit too precious for our budget.

Above the fire pit, my sumac tree is blazing beautifully. :D

And my beloved Virginia Creeper is just beginning to turn... *happy sigh*

I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.  L.M. Montgomery

And the dogwood... oh, the dogwood :D

Fall has always been my favorite season.  The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.  Lauren DeStefano

The rock wall looks great! You will really enjoy this area on cool fall evenings around a fire pit. It's the only time of year I allow hotdogs :)

I see what you did there, precious.

I don't think I've ever enjoyed an autumn more than this one. The trees are so vibrant this year. I never would have thought that fall could be so ... optimistic. Usually I do not think of fall as its own season, but rather pre-winter and that's just sad. For some reason - more outside time than usual? - I'm just really happy and trying to store up every blessed sight, sound and smell.

Looks like a lot of work! The sort of project that it is very satisfying to have done. And fall is lovely. Looks like you have some beautiful colors.
