Houston, We Have A Problem...

Um.  Yah.

You know what this is?

Guess.

Bottom right.  The big one.

When Gunnar first noticed it, we marked it with a black Sharpie so we could tell if it was growing.

I don't think we needed the Sharpie after all.

But, on the bright side, we have a work of modern art on our front window!

Yah... OOPS. We don't know what caused it to crack - don't think it got hit. And it's a double-pane window, and cracking on the inside, so it wasn't the lawnmower or anything like that.

I think it's just the age of the window. It's a HUGE window and maybe the header above it isn't supporting the weight enough???

The big pain of it is that we would not be allowed to replace that window "as is" - it must either be special reinforced glass (due to the size) or be divided into smaller windows. That wouldn't be bad to do a big window in the middle and two smaller side windows that could open... just expensive. And what Mr. Architect would REALLY like to do is put in a bay window with a window seat... in our dreams!

Ugh.

I do love old houses, even if they are constantly settling. Your home is a beauty, even with the "work of modern art"!

Not allowed? As in building code not allowed?

The bay with the seat sounds gorgeous and at least it wouldn't disrupt the view too much. But yeah, the expense. Y'know what I hate though? Having to do something "for now" and then having to do it again.

I also hate itty bitty panes that have to be cleaned individually but maybe other folks aren't as lazy as I am. :)

I must be a bit slow, but it took me a while to figure out what I was looking at!
So sorry it's happened.

Maybe all the energy those young Grasshoppers exude??

So very sorry though :-( Will you have to do something soon, or can you live with it until next spring?

Have you started shopping Craigslist? or do you have a friend who works for a window company? {Tim's nephew re-windowed his sunroom with cast-offs from work -- nice perk}

Oh no! Praying for the perfect solution!

Oh, no! Our house isn't very old (1976) but I dread the thought of having to replace any of the windows. I don't envy you - I think I'd just leave it taped and hope it stays put!

Oh no! It would have to be the biggest window. We had a sidelight crack for no apparent reason. Our house isn't that old, but it is very crooked. Hope you're able to find a good solution -- although I like the modern art. :o)

Blessings!
