Grasshopper Days

Grasshopper Days

For today, Tuesday, September 2, 2014

Outside my window...  a cool, breezy day, with clouds and a few sprinkles of rain.  A good day to be getting back to school - and not wishing we were at the lake!

Hearing...  the dryer tumbling - too cool and damp to hang things on the line.  The boys are working quietly on language (Gunnar) and biology (Tate).

Pondering...  when did he get so grown up?

Heading off to the bus, this morning.

Praying...  for the transition - getting back in the groove with schoolwork, and for Tate - speaking up for himself when he needs something repeated or a situation changed.

Thankful...  he seemed to have a good first day... well, first half day.  He's done around 10:30.

We picked him up and headed out for our first-day-of-school treat - donuts at our very favorite neighborhood shop!

Wyatt won't start for a couple weeks, but he's celebrating too.  I mean, who would pass up a donut?

Wearing...  capri jeans, black t-shirt, and my "house shoes" - blue crocs.

Creating...  heading to a baby shower this Saturday, so I'll get pictures of my little creations and post them afterwards :D

Going...  to work though the school day with the boys, maybe by the consignment store (dropping off), and to take the boys to CAP.  Wyatt is really congested and is staying home tonight - thus, not driving them.

Reading...  finished Blink before school started - success!  The boys loved it.  We all think it would make a great movie.

Learning...  random factoids...

Looking forward to...  Kerry and I have a little getaway planned next month :D

In the kitchen...  making spaghetti for a late lunch.  We usually have our bigger family meal for a late lunch on Tuesday since the boys are going to CAP in the evening.  They just make a sandwich or grab a snack, and I don't make dinner.

In the learning rooms...  waking up a dormant "math brain" (calculate the volume and surface area of a cylinder) and working on self-discipline - keeping yourself working while Mom folds the laundry and makes a blog-post.

Around the house...

Books and Lego pieces.  My constant companions.

The Mother Load...
   run some errands
   clean the master bath (gross)
move furniture in the master bedroom
   remove/wash/store the window screens
patch Tate's jeans (hole in the bottom of the knee)
pull out the peas and bean vines from the garden
   prep for Sunday school
      ... and more, more, more!

Noticing that...  the days are noticeably shorter.

A favorite quote for today...  Come Thou fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace,
Streams of mercy never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.

One of my favorite things...  (though it also drives me nuts...) the way Gunnar chatters while we are out walking.  The kid is an open book :D

A few plans for the rest of the week...  four solid days of schooling (whew!), Civil Air Patrol, the baby shower... and working through my big Mother Load list (only a portion above).

A peek into my world...

The trees by the driveway, starting to show some fall color yesterday - love it!

I just had a few moments to get caught up on all tour posts from the last couple weeks... I don't have much to "comment" other then, how is dirt a threat to the environment?? Isn't dirt part of nature??
Enjoy another year of homeschooling... It will all end too soon!!
