I had a seat like that with my sons (now 43 and 42). I don't think they could stand in it though. When our daughter was born (50 years ago) we had a little Fiat car. We folded the back seat down and when we traveled home with her the first time (3 hour trip), I lined a cardboard box with blankets. I then put a firm pillow in it and then baby. It almost makes me sick to my stomach to think how easily she could have been injured, but then we also traveled without seat belts!
Looks positively genius! Yes, all the good ideas are gone and labeled unsafe or something. Perhaps they figured kids would learn to drive and take the car at age 3? My Joanna drove the car into the barn when we lived in North Dakota. Those were fun days. Love you sister!
My grandma talked about a car seat like this - they used to drive from California to Missouri every year and the baby was always in something like this!
