Grasshopper Days
Outside my window... clouds rolling in, as was predicted. I hate to see the sunshine go, but I guess it will make it easier for everyone to buckle down to work tomorrow.
Hearing... ninety decibels of washing machine spinning the laundry.
Pondering... I know autumn doesn't officially begin for three more weeks, but school starting and the cooler weather have put me in the fall mood :D
Praying... work-work-work for Kerry, and a smooth start to the school year. It can be hard to switch gears, so mostly it's attitudes I'm praying for. The boys are perfectly capable of doing the actual work.
Thankful... for a fun weekend to close out the summer. The boys are at a movie today, we've been to the lake, had a BBQ here Friday, had a cookout with most of the neighbors last night, and we're meeting up with friends from church tonight.
Wearing... capri jeans and a blue t-shirt... yippeeee. (eyes roll)
Going... to eat a hot dog, two nights in a row. (Which just about fills my annual quota.) They have to be cooked over a fire or no thank you.
Looking forward to... tomorrow. January is just a month. No big deal. But September is a fresh start. A clean slate. That's when the new year starts for us. New books. New projects. New beginnings.
I love it :D
In the kitchen... cooking out again tonight :D
In the learning rooms... new books, piles of fresh paper, clean binders, sharp pencils, and the beginning of a thirty-six-week countdown.
Around the house... summer/fall colors
The Mother Load... several emails to send, CAP things to order for Gunnar's new uniform (he's so excited!), a freezer to organize (what is in there, anyway?), laundry to hang on the line, and dust bunnies (elephants) that need to be dispatched. And more... there's always more.
Noticing that... I have quite a backlog of books I didn't read over the summer. I do better when I'm on a schedule.
Something to remember for later... when we go to the lake and the weather is hot, the water always feels pretty cold right at first. I prefer to say refreshing. Some people want to walk in gradually, and allow their body to adjust to the temperature. Others of us think that is slow torture and just jump off the end of the dock, getting it over with all at once. So Wyatt and Tate were daring each other, each trying to make sure that if he went in, the other would go in too. So right before my eyes (but before I could whip out the camera) my fourteen year old and my seventeen year old ran down the dock and jumped in while holding hands. So apparently yes, yes we are those geeky homeschoolers you were warned about.
A favorite quote for the day... If you can't make it better, you can laugh at it. Erma Bombeck
One of my favorite things... a tin bucket full of sharp, brand new, #2 pencils.
A Bible verse... You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing... lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. from Psalm 16
A few plans for the rest of the week... one more cookout (!), starting school tomorrow, CAP tomorrow evening (Wyatt should get his wings, and Gunnar may promote to "Airman Basic"), the boys may be working on a computer on Wednesday, Wyatt works on Thursday, and Wyatt and Tate are working at another airshow this weekend.
A peek into my world... out the dining room window...

January is the fresh start month for us as far as school goes, but over here September heralds in Spring so I love it! Very short mind you. Summer often seems to go from October to April. Have a wonderful new year of education and all that other good learning stuff!
Wishing I could send you a package of Dubuque BEEF Plumpers. :D Now that's a hot dog worth eating! ...in moderation of course. ;-)
I am planning to start our first September school day with a read-aloud for history. Nothing like eating dessert first! hee hee
Picturing the cooperative run/jump off the dock... what a great memory for you!
Sounds so exciting! My teens are in public school, we started last month. Wish we would have home schooled. But I was not obedient to God at the time. Lessons I am trying to pass on to others and my girls.
Are those leaves turging already!? I love fall! Can't wait for October to get here. Hope school goes well this week!
I am in perfect agreement about the hot dogs. Although I will accept a grilled hot dog in addition to fire-roasted.
Can't be the pink ones, though. Nope. Will not happen.
Looking forward to seeing your beautiful leaves changing colors soon. Your yard is always so gorgeous, no matter what time of year!
