Grasshopper Days

Grasshopper Days

For today, January 9, 2012.

Outside my window...  gray clouds, showers, and snow up in the hills.

I am thinking...  am I the only one having a hard time remembering to write 2012

I am thankful for...  two boys are through with their schoolwork already, my office is mostly tidy (still in progress), and I have fresh sheets on the bed.

I am praying for...  Tate.  Lots going on in his life right now.  And carbonated hormones aren't helping.  Also, more work for Kerry would be nice.

I am wearing...  Lordhavemercy, blue jeans, blue t-shirt, purple sweater (Gunnar's favorite), teal wool socks.  I look like I got dressed at a yard sale.  *sigh*  And worse, I couldn't care less!

I am creating...  plans for a quilt.

I am going...  batty, one child at a time.

I am reading...  Sarah Bishop, by Scott O'Dell, with the boys.

I am hoping...  more than I can say right now.

I am hearing...  Wyatt, doing his history reading (moving around, getting his books), time to switch the laundry to the dryer (beep beep), and tappety-tappety-tappety ;D

From the learning rooms...  Wyatt reading Slopes of War and Elijah of Buxton, me reading Sarah Bishop with Tate and Gunnar, and talking about school in colonial times; Wyatt working with polynomials, Tate converting percent to decimal to fraction, Gunnar using tables, charts, and schedules; Wyatt studying water, Tate learning about erosion and deposition, and Gunnar fascinated with fishes; and more, more, more :D

From the kitchen...  all the boys have plans this evening (Kerry and Gunnar - Boys' Club at church, and Wyatt and Tate SAR training), so we had a big taco salad for lunch and will probably just make sandwiches for dinner.

Around the house...  sparkly winter things.  Pics soon.

Something I want to remember...  Gunar used to say, What in carnation?  I think he'd been reading Homer Price and was mispronouncing tarnation.  Or he'd say of something, Well, it's not my peculiar favorite when he meant particular.

On my mind...  how to help Tate work through some frustrations.  This kid needs a break.

Noticing that...  they may be boys, but they're never too old to hug their mom.  And I'm sticking to it.

Pondering these words...   "and it came to pass.."  That is, many things (and I'm thinking of frustrations and trials) come to pass, not to stay.  And for that I'm glad.

One of my favorite things...  the chocolate orange I have stashed from Christmas, and how good just a couple of slices are :D

A few plans for the rest of the week...  Boys' Club and SAR training tonight, CAP tomorrow night, and then the youth group (aptly known as "None the Wiser") meets here Wednesday night.  A nice, young couple is leading it, so I'm just responsible for providing a place and a meal.  Hmmm, lots of hungry teens.  I'm thinking chili :D

Here is a picture I am sharing...

A sneak peek at my wintery house :D

Kerry brought me the little penguins from a mission trip to Chile several years ago, and the igloo is Kosta Boda.

I don't write the date by hand often enough to be used to 2012 either ~ and my brain often thinks it ought to still be the 1990's {tho that seems forever ago at the same time} ;-) Old age is just grand.

I like the penguins too! and the thought of 40-some candles in one place. {other than my birthday cake}

I love the penguins and the igloo!
Because we were away over New Year, I feel as though I haven't quite entered 2012 properly, and therefore my brain just isn't there yet... I hope it catches up before I have to write out a cheque!

I LOVE that candle holder! Very cute!

I like the quote about trials coming to pass (and not coming to STAY). Here's to the strength, courage, and endurance to make it through the trials!

You are torturing me with the sneak peak! I'm feeling bad for Tate even though I have no idea what's going on. I guess it's just having one the same age I know that it sometimes gets tough. At fifteen and 6'3" I am happy that I still get hugs at least 2x daily.

So, jeans, stripey socks that don't match the rest of the outfit which is a rosy long sleeved T and a thrifted brown sweater. Yep, stylin' right along with you. I went out in public like this today though. Is that bad?

Blessings!
