Grasshopper Days

Grasshopper Days

For today, Monday, March 10, 2014.

Outside my window...
high clouds, birds - crows -
are busy in the dogwood tree
collecting little twigs.

Hearing... a very quiet house - both the boys at home are reading and Wyatt is at the high school.

Pondering...  I have big news to share tomorrow :D

Praying...  for work to come in for Kerry and for him to be diligent with his time (it's easy to get out of the habit when you don't have work), for our annual insurance renewal - always a major hassle, and for good use of time for all of us.

Thankful...  Kerry does have some work.  I'm still praying for a JOB (you know, with hours, and benefits) but in the meantime, he has some projects to work on.

Wearing...  blue jeans, black t-shirt, black sweater.  Not quite so many layers this week!

Going...  to pick up Wyatt in about five minutes.

Reading...  N.D. Wilson's 100 Cupboards as a family.

Learning...  how to make lefse - yum!

Looking forward to...  going to the Oregon coast in July, with my (extended) family.

In the kitchen...  leftover ham - mmmmmm :D

In the learning rooms...  the three boys are so different.  Tate would do the whole week's work in one day if I didn't encourage him to spread it out so it will "sink in" better.  Gunnar is content to do each day's work as it comes.  And Wyatt... needs a fire lit under his butt from time to time.  *sigh*

Around the house...  I think it's time for my wintery/valentine stuff to go away.  But that would involve cleaning and dusting and vacuuming and... I'll get to it eventually ;D

The Mother Load... ironing, laundry to fold, a dirty kitchen floor to mop, papers to sort and organize, and...

40 Bags in 40 Days

Have you heard of this?  Not sure where it started, but the idea is to clean/purge/organize and get rid of 40 bags-worth of stuff for Lent.  I have a bit of catching up to do, and I doubt I can fill 40 bags, but I'm going to get going on it and try!

Noticing that...  clutter breeds clutter (ACK!)

Something to remember for later...  Gunnar could watch baby otters play All. Day. Long.

A favorite quote for today...  Tate found this quote from Douglas MacArthur for an assignment earlier this morning,

Age wrinkles the body.
Quitting wrinkles the soul.

One of my favorite things...  friendly neighbors :D  Ours invited the boys over this morning to make lefse.  If you haven't had this traditional Scandinavian treat, it's similar to a tortilla but much more tender - much better.

A Bible verse...
The Lord your God is with you,
He is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17

A few plans for the rest of the week...  oh boy, buckle your seat-belts, and here we go!
Today we have school and rehearsal tonight.
Tuesday, school and CAP.
Wednesday the public schools have early release, so it's a good day for us to get more done!
Thursday, school and I take Tate to the eye doctor to get his new contacts!
Friday... don't forget, Pi Day is coming!
Saturday, Wyatt takes the community college English placement test, and
Sunday, lunch at my sister's.

And probably more that I'm forgetting!

A peek into my world...  I'm glad they're growing up, but I miss these crazy little faces...

... can you believe they got that dirty?

That's better :D

I just had to reply. Did you intentionally make the first statement an haiku? It was beautiful!

I loved the picture of the muddy boys. We've had that before. Thank goodness it was summer and we were able to hose them off outside!

Have a good week!

Sheesh! Why do they keep growing!? ;o) I was cleaning today and realized we still have our Valentine's streamers looped through the dining room lights. Otters ARE very fun to watch. I'm with Gunnar. By the way, your boys go on the BEST field trips! Have a safe and good week! (Glad the branch did not fall on the van!)

Wilma, you were a teacher, weren't you?! I didn't realize I'd written a haiku, but now that you've drawn my attention to it, I've gone back and reformatted it ;D And YES we hosed them off outside!

Deborah - I loved the otters, too!

Rebecca - YES YES YES! I didn't want to intrude on your getaway, but maybe Kerry and I can come meet you for dinner or something!

Lefse! with butter and sugar. Yum. My dad calls tortillas "Mexican lefse" - you can see which he knows from childhood :-)
