I had great intentions of being Very Productive on Saturday, and that went well through the morning.
I'll have you know that it was so hot, I did EIGHT loads of laundry.
(I know, I know, hold your applause.)
It was so hot I could hang one load of laundry and find it just about dry when the next load was done.
Meanwhile, I looked up and saw this:
In case you don't recognize those clouds, they're Virga. Basically it's raining, way up there, but the rain is evaporating before it hits the ground.
I called the boys out to see because the clouds looked so weird, and not a drop hit the ground.
Load #4 and #5 were safe.
The clouds passed right over and the sun shone.
And shone and shone until I called my parents and asked if we could come to the lake, because - people - it was 88F in the shade.
And I know you southerners have more stamina for heat than we do, and you can laugh all you want (and you probably should) because - no kidding - our local news feeds are posting instructions for "How to Cool Your House" (because no AC) and "First Aid for Heat Stroke" and "RED FLAG RED FLAG RED FLAG - County-Wide Burn Ban" like nobody here can remember last year's wildfires.
So we went to the lake, and I didn't bring my camera, but it looked about like it did last time we went.
And I'm posting all these photos here because just looking at them makes me feel cooler,
hallelujah and amen.
And one last thing, a little Public Service Announcement because it's actually cloudy at the moment:
Lightening is the opposite of darkening (think Michael Jackson)
Lightning is that bolt of electricity in the sky.
That will be all.

I needed that PSA right up until last year when I finally learned how to spell that cheating word.
Those clouds look like ghosts fleeing the earth. I'm pretty sure I've never seen them IRL. Here we get a lot of "mackerel sky, mackerel sky, never long wet, never long dry."
I used to bounce around in the ocean (not swimming, but riding the waves, floating etc.) a lot when I was a kid, but now I'm a little freaked out by natural swimming places. I'm going to try to get over it this year. :) That lake looks so refreshing even though under the dock seems a little creepy to me.
We have had a break in our heat wave. It was a very nice weekend! Wow! 8 loads of laundry!? I feel over whelmed with 5. You always make me laugh with your sense of humor! I also learn something most every time I visit you. I had never heard of these clouds before. Thanks! Hope you week is cooler!
Confession of a southerner: I'm a heat wimp, too. I'm really spoiled by my A/C, especially in the humidity. I grew up in dry heat with no A/C, and I handled it a little better than this humidity, but I still hate heat!
So, there...you're not alone! :)
I grew up on the lake and swimming all summer, so I'm used to that, but a lot of people are uneasy in large bodies of water where they can't see the sides/bottom! Fortunately, there's nothing scary in the lake. And the water is so clean and clear, you could even drink it unfiltered and be fine (lots of people do, in fact).
Glad some of you are getting a break from the heat!
