18 Days Later... We Celebrate A Birthday and Summer Is Finally Here

Gunnar had a birthday.
Yes, it was on Father's Day, and I've already mentioned it.

My baby is NINE.

I can't believe it.

So, in my world, you get a family party and (usually) you get a kid party.
When I can get my act together.
Until you turn 10,
and then you get to invite a friend
or two
and do something special.

So today, we took some friends to the (free!) movies
and to Dairy Queen
to beat the heat and have some fun.

Because, after all my whining comments about it being cold...
not so much, anymore.
Our van thermometer said 97.
That's 36, for our metric friends.

So we decided we needed some of this...

... and a lot of this...

... and a bit of this...

... and Kerry tried to stage this...

... and tried again...

... and this...

... generally progressed pretty quickly to this...

... which required a lot of this...

... which was just fine with the birthday boy...

... and actually, just fine with two dads,
one mom,
and nine boys.

In fact, let's do it again tomorrow.
Well, the lake part anyway.

Thank you so much for the invitation Julie! The kids really enjoyed it.

I'll bet the water was absolutely refreshing!

PS. I need to take a lesson from you about getting events posted right away. Mine are stacking up and I'm afraid I'll never get to them.

What a great day! I love the jumping-off-the-dock pictures: those are nearly impossible to get!

Happy Birthday, Gunnar! I hope your tenth year is amazing!

I love the stuff you guys do to celebrate. Great boys activities. Love the group shot at the top with a flash of pink in there as well!

Ninety-seven?? THERE?! Wow. That's rare, isn't it? Or are you further inland than I think?

The lake party looks so incredibly fun ~ I personally would not have the energy for the hijinks, but floating in some water sounds delightful ~ Hope you do get to do it again!

Cutzi... I didn't even know what a blog was when my kids were the ages of yours!

And Melanie... 97 is unusual. We're on the coast, so our summer temps are usually in the 70's and low 80's, but we get one or two mini heat-waves.

Soooooo thankful we live near Gramma and Grampa Grasshopper and their beach!

Woo-hoo!

Oh wow! 36 is hot even by our standards (except that it's a dry heat here and there's no beach)
Looks like you had a great time, the photos are lovely! It made my kids start moaning - "When's summer going to be here?"
Happy Birthday to Gunnar - he looks really special all dressed up like ready to swim!

There is something about sunshine, water, happy, busy children that make the most beautiful and memorable photos. Looks like it was a fantabulous day! I'm glad you finally have some of our heat!

Blessings!
