Go Figure Some More...

I've been reading through the comments to the post below and have a few more thoughts to add.

The first thing is that we do the right thing because it's the right thing to do, not because we expect a reward.  Not that any of you were insinuating anything, but it crossed my mind.  I mean, we didn't waltz in there expecting applause.  But neither did I expect such a cold reception.

Second, people DO need the Lord!  We all surely do!  Sadly a large percentage of folks in our area prefer a form of "spirituality" based on nature/environmentalism/new-agey-stuff/etc. to the truth.

I like animals.  I like nature.  I believe in being a good steward of God's creation.  But I don't worship it.  I don't elevate animals to equality with people.

Third, the irony is that while we missed out on learning a bit about the birds, it's the rehabilitation center that really missed an opportunity.  While I'm not in a position to give them a monetary donation right now, as homeschoolers we might have been interested in volunteering occasionally.  That's work experience, learning, and fun all rolled into one!  And we're connected with a lot of other homeschoolers - potentially a large pool of volunteers.  But I'm not likely to offer to come back now.

There's another wildlife rescue/rehab place in our county.  Next time we come across another animal in distress I'll try them first.

It's amazing to me that you guys rescued an owl. I'm sure that he or she appreciated it!

It's good that you have more than one rehab centre. Maybe the cold reception is why you have more than one. Our raptor rehab centre was thankfully very welcoming when The Engineer and kids made use of it a few years ago by bringing in a red tailed hawk. Sadly, no camera was taken with... I like your additional thoughts!

Blessings!

Oh herding grasshoppers - you all are sooooo very special and I so appreciate your outlook on things and I agree with everything you said. It is too bad that some people cannot see beyond exactly what they are doing at the moment. I trust we each will take the opportunity's the Lord gives us to share HIS love, even if we don't get to speak it - and I believe that is what you all did in this situation. Cuudooos! love you guys, PB&j

We have friends that live just outside Mt. Vernon. We were hoping to go visit them this fall, but I think we're saving up for a trip to the Philippines in the early winter instead :o). I'll let you know though as we'd love to meet you, Kerry, and the boys!

God bless!

Just read your owl saga ~ what an unexpected learning experience for your family. (I'm referring to the how-to-get-over-life-with-not-so-nice-people aspect of it all)

On a happier note, I have another Blog Award for you, you popular girl, you! ♥ Check it out at my blog.

And "Keep on keepin' on!"

It is amazing to me that people that rely on donations and the kindness of others do not realize how their actions hurt the very creatures they are trying to help.

Imagine what an experience it would have been for your boys, had they been more friendly.

It is unfortunate.
