Albert Einstein

It is, in fact, nothing short of a miracle
that the modern methods of instruction
have not entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry;
for this delicate little plant, aside from stimulation,
stands mainly in need of freedom;
without this it goes to wrack and ruin without fail.

I like the "mainly in need of freedom" bit, especially on those days I can't seem to get anyone to DO some 'proper' school work! ;-D
(Define 'proper' anyway...)

Time Magazine just had an article saying we should get rid of summer vacation, because our kids are falling behind other countries. I thought it was a terrible idea- kids need time to play and explore! We keep adding homework hours and school hours, and our test scores keep dropping. Obviously, the "more school = better education" equation is incorrect.

I really love this quote- kids need to explore and learn about things in a way that interests them for anything to "stick."
