Grasshopper Days 3-14-2011

Grasshopper Days

For today, March 14, 2011

Outside my window...  dark!  I usually try to post this in the morning, but not today.
The wind is picking up again - lots of wind for the last four or five days, but we haven't lost power, so not too bad.

I am thinking...  about Japan.

I am thankful for...  three boys in warm, cozy beds, in a safe, dry house, with plenty of food,
and water you can drink straight from the tap.

I am praying for...  Japan, the boys' character(s), and wisdom and endurance for me.

I am wearing...  navy blue sweats, red long-sleeve shirt, thick socks, and hair up.

I am going...  no plans for the next few days.

I am reading...  The Hiding Place, by Corrie ten Boom, with the boys.

I am hoping...  to get adjusted to Daylight Savings Time... so hard to get up in the morning!

I am hearing...  blessed silence in the house, the boys are in bed :D  And the wind blowing outside.

I am remembering...  what a clean office looke like... *sigh* ;D

From the learning rooms...  Wyatt just finished his math book and started on Jacob's Algebra (hope I can keep up with him!),  Tate is forging ahead on his book, and Gunnar is delighted to be well into his fourth grade math.  We're working on words with -graph and -gram, making an electo-magnet, and reading about the partition of India and of Israel.

From the kitchen...  all's quiet, now.  Thawing out some caribou for tomorrow's dinner.

Around the house...  stacks and stacks of book.  Really must check my library account and see if anything is due soon, because there seem to be more piles of books than usual!

On my mind...  lots to do before the weekend.  LOTS.

Noticing that...  I think ALL the boys are in a growth spurt right now.  Need to do our semi-annual "try on everything in your dressers and closet" event.

Pondering these words...
God does not have problems.  Only plans.

One of my favorite things...  unexpected blessings! :D
I'm always on the lookout for "homeschool enrichment", right?
Last night we got a call from a friend, in town with her husband and HS age son who was playing a benefit concert with his select youth symphony.  Would we like to come?  You bet!
Nearly three hours of live music, and even ballet at the end!
Okay, the ballet was probably not the boys' favorite, but they were good sports.
And the symphony, along with classical music, played some folk songs as well as (imagine the boys' eyes lighting up!) the theme from Pirates of the Caribbean.
Then, when we got home we had an email waiting from our local theater, thanking us for being such "good patrons", (which is really a stretch, given that we might get tickets for one event a year!) and offering us free tickets for a concert later this spring by the US Army Band and Choir.  Cool!

Here is a picture I am sharing...
Probably summer of 1967.  :D

Gorgeous pic! Is that you?
My kids just LOVE the Pirates of the Carribean theme, Eden hopes each year that her orchestra will play it, especially since one section has a cello solo!
I'm glad you got to go to the concert,

Felicity

Sweet picture!

We're appreciating more than ever the beauty of "normal" around here, too, as we think of and pray for those in Japan.

Is that you!? Adorable! I had a horse like that too! Love the clothes drying in the background too.

When you wrote caribou defrosting on the counter, I totally pictured an entire beast laying on the counter. Woops! Edit that thought :OD.

Hooray for free concerts. I love culturing my kids -- even if they don't always appreciate all of it.

Thinking and praying for Japan too.

Blessings!
