Binky Love

So I was sorting through the boys' mementos the other day...

Sometimes I'm shocked by what I find.  Well, surprised, anyway.  Because I'm not much of a keeper.  I'm not into collecting stuff.  But for some reason, I saved these.

Gunnar's binkies.  A plethora of binkies.  Which he found hilarious.  Because he hasn't seen them in about seven years.  He was my only binky boy.

Wyatt sucked his thumb and liked blankets with fringe.   Or tassels.  With which he would tickle the side of his face, while he sucked his thumb.  Or if no blanket was available, he'd use my hair.

Tate chewed on his blankies.  And they had to be the cotton thermal kind.  And we had to have several of them, because by the end of the day a chewed-on blanky is a stinky blanky.  A very stinky blanky.

But Gunnar took to binkies.  Sometimes he'd be partial to one style or another - probably why we had so many.  I eventually restricted them to sleeping time, and then took them away all together.  Much less traumatic than I feared it would be.  And forgot all about them.  But for some reason I put them in his box of treasures.  All of them, apparently.

Bye bye.

I have to admit... I've been hanging on to a few of the "baby" things for no real reason! We still have infant feeding spoons in the drawer (Nolan has been using real spoons for a rather long time now) and a "bib drawer" (neither boy wears bibs anymore)...

Perhaps it is time to purge. You are giving me motivation- keep it coming!

Oh that IS funny! =) What a LOT of pacifiers. But how fun for him to see the collection now that he's old enough to remember that pile for future smiles.

Yah... for all my "be efficient, streamline things, get rid of what we don't need"... there are pockets of randomness in my life.

For years I hung onto stuff like the baby high chair that clips right onto the table, (the portable crib, the booster seat, etc.) you know... for friends that might come to visit.

Well, they usually bring their own stuff. I've whittled it down to a bib and a sippy cup. We'll improvise :D

Oh my, that's funny! I didn't even know what a binky was till now.. We call them dummies!
I tried with each baby to get them to take a dummy, but only my eldest took them. I tried different types, but never had a collection like yours!!

Felicity,

Binky is really a nickname. Most folks call them pacifiers over here. You know, they pacify the baby. But I get the "dummy" :D I think they call them that in Oz too, but it's been awhile, so I may be behind the times.

Ohhh! Squirt would have fits of giggles if she saw all those binkies. She was my pacifier baby -- except she called it her lolly.

I just got rid of the portable crib two and a half weeks ago. Still have the stroller and the clip chair. I'll blame it on the hope that our new Little One is exactly that -- little :o).

Blessings!

You have good reason to hang onto things, Deborah! We're not in that position now, and if we need anything I figure I'll just hit the consignment stores :D

I saved Henry's favorite binky. That's it, though. I think he was the only one that really liked them.

Whoa, that was a lot of binkies you had there...
