Summer Science... Ew

Tate has been at it again.

For some reason, these...

...bother me much less than these.

It must be the legs.  Somehow, they help.

He had four of them, in a bucket.
And then there were three.
He thought the littlest one might have escaped, into the yard.
(Not again...)
But I think it met a different fate, which we won't discuss.

He called me from the driveway.
"Mom!  Come see what I've got!  It's really cute!"

That is not the adjective I would've chosen.

I made the pictures small on purpose.
My mom reads the blog and I don't want to freak her out.
Because we all remember the incident with the hoe and the shrieking
and the visiting missionary.

If you want to see the snakes better, just click on them.

UPDATE:   If you're kids are into bugs, reptiles, or any kind of creepy crawlies, you might be interested in this book.  Fun AND science!

I have a feeling there is a warning passed around by all visiting missionaries: "Avoid the Grasshopper house with its billions of SNAKES!"

ROFL! Matt is already finding frogs and bugs... I'm sure the snakes aren't far behind (we have two garter snakes hanging out behind a cabinet in the garage- they can stay there as far as I'm concerned)! I'm sure not getting them out of there, lol!

It could be worse. You could have allowed your son to keep a garter snake in a 10-gallon terrarium (after much pleading and gnashing of teeth), only to have it escape in the house, and then find it three days later when you picked up your trusty IBM Selectric...while crouched with pinned arms under the tiny kitchen table.

Oh my heavens, that sounds like a bump on the head for sure! And probably a temporary freak out, on my part.

I know they're harmless, but the startle factor is still there.

Eeep! We thankfully have not seen any snakes at all yet, but the toads are in abundance. I was sure I hit one with the mower the other day, but when I finally mustered the courage to go have a look, he couldn't be found. I hope I don't find him later. Ugh!

Have fun with all your interesting reptilia :o)!

Blessings!
