Time is of the Essence

For some reason I had this idea that we should go ahead and 'do school' today, and then take Friday off. Kerry needs to be banking some work hours today, anyway. And it looked a lot better on my schedule than blowing off today.

But we did.

Who wants to do grammar when there is a real live lumberjack climbing around in your trees with a chain saw?! Hey, that’s educational, right? He cleared out a tree in the back that broke off last winter, and a dead limb hanging off the big fir tree in the front. It wasn't a very big branch, but it's been bothering me since it was right above a 6’ x 9’ plate glass window. Great. Done!

And really, it was just more important to go play with friends who go back to (public) school tomorrow and won’t have the flexibility we will. So, we’ll get onto our studies tomorrow.

Reminded of this poem, I ran across years ago in Welcome Home.

Time is of the Essence

Now is the time to get things done...
wade in the water,
sit in the sun,
squish my toes
in the mud by the door,
explore the world in a boy just four.

Now is the time to study books,
flowers,
snails,
how a cloud looks;
to ponder “up”,
where God sleeps nights,
why mosquitoes take such big bites.

Later there’ll be time
to sew and clean,
paint the hall
that soft new green,
to make new drapes,
refinish the floor-
Later on... when he’s not just four.

That poem is sooo true. Yesterday, I spent the day letting my little one play with chalk, make mud piles in the sandbox, took a lesuirly walk, it was just perfect weather. And in New England, it's soon to be nasty weather soon, so why not enjoy it today? :)

Sounds like a great day to me!

We also anticipate lots of "inside days" ahead, so we take advantage of being outside when we can :0)
