Camping, Grasshopper-Style

Since I couldn't bring you all along on our camping trip last week, I thought I'd give you a peek into the inner workings of...

...the Grasshopper Family, on vacation.

First, spend lots of time, energy, and money setting up a high-tech and luxurious home-away-from-home at the most glamorous spot you can think of.
In this case, Lincoln Rock State Park, on the Columbia River,
with a view of Turtle Island.

Spare no expense to provide yourself with gracious and comfortable accommodations.

Spend every moment in earnest and industrious exercise of both body...

... and mind.

Eat nothing but the finest and healthiest local cuisine.

Store up memories of all your happy moments of family bruising bonding.

Startle surprise each other with cold and wet little gifts that show your love and appreciation.

And, feed your intellect by conducting science experiments.
(Yes, the flames are blue.)

Come with us, next time?!

Oh man, that lake view is incredible. Gorgeous pictures. (Well, the one with the Cheeto sandwich is a little scary ; ).

What a great vacation! I'm so glad you posted pics. Though I'm not so sure about the cheesy-puff sandwich, lol!

Um, btw, most of us don't actually eat a cheese puff sandwich. But I did buy a bag of cheese puffs (don't hate me!) and Tate was having a bagel sandwich and decided to pile on his cheese puffs. Go fig.

We did come home with several bags of fresh Washington apples :D

WHERE did you get that self-contained hammock thing??? I'd almost kill for that information. Who makes it???

LOVE the open-face cheese puff sandwich and camping on GRASS!!! Oh - never occurred to me that people could do that!

Q - there's more to the story (yet to come) regarding camping on grass...

and the hammock? No homocide will be required. It came from Target, on clearance, after last summer. (Or the summer before?)

It looks like you had a much sunnier week of camping than we did, Julie. We camped at Fairfield Lake near Mossyrock WA...a favorite campground of our friends...who happen to live in Vancouver. I will admit, willingly no less, that it is a beautiful campground. But unlike my "cave dwelling" friends and my husband...who could easily exist in a cavelike surrounding....I thought I was going to lose my mind. The canopy of trees, although glorious in their stature and beauty, were so thick that the sun...when it did manage to peak through the clouds ...never made it to our campsite. We arrived on Monday ..with my two grandkids (3 & 6) in tow and ready for some fun. By Wednesday morning I was ready to leave. And my daughter texted the days forecast as 'rain and more rain'...that was all it took. My dear husband agreed to 'no foul weather camping'...so we packed up and headed south. It started raining as we were packing. We wound up in Portland...in my sister-in-laws driveway...and had a full day of fun visiting while my grands rode their bikes all around her place..she has a great yard for kids. The sun never came out but it didn't rain until we were packing to leave on Thursday night.
Your spot looked so much more inviting! LOVELY! But I have to admit...we have rid ourselves of the tent and gone to the trailer (old bladders demand such creature comforts:)
I do love camping though! When it is sunny!!!! :)

I spy orange cones!
Would love to see the Grasshoppers in Water Deflection Action...

=)

Oh the cones, the CONES! I think we had at least TWELVE sprinklers on our site. *sigh*

Sadly, Kerry got NO pictures of us in action. Probably trying to keep the camera dry!

Thank you for the info. Didn't have time for digging holes this week anyway. ;)

Thank you also for your two cents about the boys losing their brains when their dad is gone. I think you've nailed it, and when I was sharing the idea with the boys, you could see it in their faces - the stress disappear from the top down - as I explained what I thought was happening and why. Mr Perfect left for a business trip and instructed the boys that their job is simply to obey and make wise decisions. We'll see how that goes. What a blessing - THANK YOU!
